Zach Buie

Zach Buie

Zach Buie moved to Salt Lake City in 2016 to pursue a DMA in trumpet performance. He serves as a teaching assistant in the School of Music and studies with Travis Peterson, principal trumpet of the Utah Symphony. Zach has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He can be heard on numerous recordings in classical, jazz, rock, and funk styles. Recent performances include solo appearances with the Utah Philharmonia, the Sul Ross State University Wind Ensemble, and a recital for the Big Bend Chamber Music Series. He has performed with the Utah Symphony and freelances with various regional ensembles, including the Utah Wind Symphony, Salt Lake Choral Artists, Osmond Chapman Orchestra, and chamber music groups.

Originally from Hallsville, Texas, Zach made Austin his home for many years where he began his career as a professional musician and educator. Zach is a former member of the Round Rock and Waco Symphonies. He has also performed with orchestras in Austin, Brazos Valley, and Longview, as well as The Dallas Winds, Imperial Brass, and the Jack Melick Big Band. From 2010 to 2014, Zach toured nationally with Soul Track Mind, garnering praise from the New York Times and The Huffington Post as leaders in the resurgence of soul music.

As an educator, Zach has served as a high school band director and maintains a large private teaching studio. In the Fall of 2017, he will begin a new role as Adjunct Instructor of Brass and Director of Jazz Ensembles at Western Wyoming College in Rock Springs. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Music in trumpet performance from Baylor University. His principal teachers include Tim Andersen, Ray Sasaki, and Wiff Rudd.


Maryanna Foulds

Maryanna Foulds

Maryanna Foulds joined the Utes Trumpet Studio as a transfer student from a program in Washington State. She currently serves as veteran member of the Seattle Cascades Drum Corp where she is a member of the leadership team and one of the trumpet section leaders. Maryanna enjoys both teaching and performing in a variety of settings, including marching band, wind ensemble, and chamber music. She is excited to be a part of the University of Utah’s School of Music and the Utes Trumpet Studio where she can explore all facets of her musical interests to better prepare her for a life in the changing musical world.


Jacob Greer

Jacob Greer

Jacob Greer is a junior music education major at the University of Utah and member of the Utes Trumpet Studio. Originally from Newport, North Carolina, Jacob has enjoyed his time in Utah and Salt Lake City having lived his whole life on the East Coast. He currently is the trumpet section leader for the University of Utah Marching Utes, and is an active member of the Tau Beta Sigma Sorority. Jacob is a member of the Seattle Cascades Drum Corp from Washington. Jacob hopes to instill a high level of love and understanding for music in future musicians.

Zach Janis is a sophomore at the University of Utah. Zach aspires to be a music educator and provide the same influence on his students that he received from his music educators growing up in Los Angeles. Zach is a member of the trumpet section in the University of Utah Wind Ensemble, but also plays tuba, and serves as their section leader in the Pride of Utah Marching Band.


Reese Johnson

Reese Johnson

Reese “Eddie” Johnson, a sophomore at the University of Utah, is a music education major and active member of the Utes Trumpet Studio. Eddie hopes to perform professionally and direct a high school music program upon completion of his requirements at the U. Along with trumpet, Eddie enjoys camping, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with friends.


Nicoli Pittman

Nicoli Pittman

Nicoli Pittman is sophomore music education and composition major at the University of Utah’s School of Music, as well as a member of the Utes Trumpet Studio. She currently serves as a member of the Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps, located in Utah. In the School of Music, Nicoli performs in a variety of ensembles including the University of Utah Marching Band, and large ensembles. She is looking to further her education and level of performance this coming year so that she can provide the next generation of performer with the best education.


Elihue Wright

Elihue Wright

Elihue Wright is a first year student from Southern Pines, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and has performed with the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Trumpet Ensemble, and has done outreach performances to local high schools with the UNCSA “Mixed Brass” Brass Quintet. During Elihue’s 2015-2016 School Year, he won 1st chair for the Moore County All-County Band, 1st Chair for the Southeastern All-District Band and 1st chair for the North Carolina All-State Honors Band. Outside of music, Elihue’s personal interests are rock climbing, skiing, wilderness backpacking, cycling, and weight lifting.


Jacob Whitchurch

Jacob Whitchurch

Jacob Whitchurch is Utah native from American Fork High School. He is a transfer student from Brigham Young University and currently majors in the composition, all while serving as an active member of the Utes Trumpet Studio. Jacob’s love for performance is apparent in his commitment for his participation in numerous ensembles at the U from the Marching Utes, Wind Ensemble, and many more. He also maintains a strong love for traveling and humanitarian work as he spent time on the East Coast working with the Hispanic population, and three months studying French in France. In his free time, Jacob enjoys building with Legos, and many more hands-on activities.
