School of Music Student Fees
Program Fee
$150/semester for declared music majors, both undergraduate and graduate students. The fee is assessed Fall and Spring semester. Music majors enrolling summer term are not assessed the fee.
The School of Music program fee is used to support costs associated with providing specialized skills and learning opportunities in Music. The fee is used for production costs that are not fully covered by other funding sources, including stage managers, ushers, facilities coordinator, piano tuner, recording/streaming engineers, music scores and parts, purchases and rentals, opera and ensemble production costs, accompanists, program production, publicity, and instrument maintenance and repairs. The fee is also used for specialized acquisitions and supplies, a technical specialist, and library aids for the McKay Music Library.

3-credit lessons (a minimum of 50-minutes per week for 14 weeks). Special fee of $475/semester to cover costs associated with providing individual instruction.

1-credit lessons (a minimum of 25-minutes per week for 14 weeks). Special fee of $238/semester to cover costs associated with providing individual instruction.
Non-Music Majors and Minors in Music

1-credit lessons (a minimum of 25-minutes per week for 14 weeks). Special fee of $375/semester to cover costs associated with providing individual instruction.

3-credit lessons (a minimum of 50-minutes per week for 14 weeks). Special fee of $750/semester to cover costs associated with providing individual instruction.
Composition Lessons

Individual Coaching
MUSC 3800 (Undergraduate)
1-credit individual coaching (a minimum of 25-minutes per week for 14 weeks). Special fee of $238/semester to cover costs associated with providing individual instruction.
MUSC 6000 (Graduate)
1-credit individual coaching (a minimum of 50-minutes per week for 14 weeks). Special fee of $475/semester to cover costs associated with providing individual instruction.
Recitals
MUSC 4920, 6920, 6930, 6940, 6950, 7920, 7930, 7940, 7950, 7960
Special Fee: $150/Semester. This fee covers program production and printing, piano maintenance, and recording costs. There is also a required deposit of $25 for recital hall reservations (in addition to the $150 special fee); the deposit is refunded if the recital hall and the green room are left in the same condition as they were provided.
Music Technology Courses
MUSC 1340, 3250, 3252, 3300, 4360, 4361, 6360, 6361
$75/semester covers the cost of specialized software and equipment used in teaching the course.
Practice Room Fee
The fee for use of practice room facilities is $60.00 per academic year (August 1 – July 31) for Music majors. The fee for piano performance/pedagogy majors is $100.00 per academic year (August 1 – July 31) for access to practice rooms with grand pianos. The fee for non-music majors and University faculty and staff is $100.00 per academic year (August 1 – July 31).
The fee is paid online at https://umarket.utah.edu/um2/uofumusic. Fees are non-refundable. You must submit the practice room access fee and form online to have your UCard be coded to access the practice rooms.
Instrument Rental Fee
Ensemble Instruments
$75 per year per instrument. Instruments are only issued to students currently enrolled in School of Music ensembles. This fee is waived for students needing a secondary instrument for band or orchestra, i.e. English horn, Eb clarinet, A clarinet, bass clarinet, contralto clarinet, contrabassoon.
Marching Band Instruments
$40 per year per instrument. Instruments are only issued to students currently enrolled in Marching Band and/or Pep Band.
String Study Instrument
$25/semester for students enrolled in String Study I or II.
Summer Instrument Rental
$40/summer. Rent an instrument during the summer. Students must be approved by their Area Head to rent an instrument during the summer. It is only to be used for personal practicing and not to be used for anything outside the School of Music.
