Dec. 5-7
Lyric Opera Ensemble with Salt Lake Symphony present:“Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Menotti and “A Christmas Carol” by Leavitt & Buck

One night, two miracles. The U Lyric Opera Ensemble teams up with Salt Lake Symphony to present two charming Christmas operas, Menotti’s classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and a new telling of Dickens’ “Christmas Carol” at the historic Grand Theater. Dec. 7
Early Music Ensemble Winter Concert: “Drive the cold winter away”: Music from the Halls and Hearths of Early America
4:00 p.m | Thompson Chamber Music Hall
Come enjoy the Early Music Ensemble in collaboration with guest choir Voci Altissime, historical dancers Dance Balletti, and cimbalomist Igor Iachimciuc, for an eclectic program of instrumental and vocal music that includes winter favorites from long ago. Dance Balletti will join the ensemble for country dances and a minuet, while the cimbalom will beckon the strains of the hammered dulcimer. Together the ensembles will capture the variety of musical life in the United States in traditional and modern arrangements, many of them by women composers, presenting music that brings us together during the holiday season. The concert is FREE and open to the public.

 

Dec. 8

Come hear School of Music faculty perform holiday classics like “The First Noel” and “Deck the Halls/It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” The program will feature five multiple piano arrangements, two nine piano medleys, two five piano medleys and one four piano medley.  Also featuring an orchestra ensemble playing the Corelli Concerto No. 8 (Christmas concerto) with the U Preparatory Division Faculty and primarily U Faculty. Plus, a performance with the Michie Undergraduate Vocal Quartet. Don’t miss this impressive holiday concert for FREE.

 

Dec. 9

Harp Ensemble Holiday Concert

7:30 p.m | Thompson Chamber Music Hall

The Harp Ensemble concert will consist of holiday favorites such as: “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,” along with pop hits “Carry on My Wayward Son” and “Can't Help Falling in Love.” Most of the songs are arranged by students of the ensemble. This concert is FREE and open to the public.

 

Dec. 13-14
"A Celebration of Christmas” with Chamber Choir, A Cappella Choir, with the Utah Symphony
Abravanel Hall | Friday 7:30 p.m. | Saturday 5:30 p.m.
This is the first year U choirs will be partnering with Utah Symphony for their annual holiday concert. Come hear U Chamber and A Cappella choirs in “A Celebration of Christmas” with the Utah Symphony and the Utah Chamber Artists.
