Biography

Emily Nelson is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Utah, where she teaches courses in general education. She is also Adjunct Faculty at Westminster College, where she teaches Opera Studio, World Music, and applied voice. She concurrently enjoys an active performing career. In 2009 she co-founded Utopia Early Music, a group that presents concerts of medieval, renaissance, and baroque music. Emily’s favorite use for her soprano voice is in playing coloratura sidekicks and supernatural beings, and she relishes opportunities to perform in operas, experimental or otherwise. She finds joy in both teaching and performing, and she feels that the two activities feed one another and keep things feeling fresh.
