Our Mission
Our Mission
The Preparatory Division was founded by Emeritus Professor Janet Mann in 1978. Our mission is twofold: to provide hands-on pedagogical training and opportunities for School of Music students and to provide quality music instruction to children and adults in the greater Salt Lake community. Since its inception, the Preparatory Division has grown and evolved to be a long-standing and successful outreach arm of the School of Music. Piano and String graduate and undergraduate students are given opportunities for supervised teaching instruction in private and group class settings. Our community music program includes instruction in piano, strings, organ, and guitar. With over 250 students, the program continues to thrive and grow each year. An expert and nurturing faculty with a commitment to excellence offer the essential fundamentals of music to all who have a desire to learn.
