Biography

A Salt Lake City native, Serenity Eyre began developing her deep passion for the violin at age four. In her younger years, Eyre had the privilege of studying with Jeanne Grover, Karen Child, and Jack Ashton. Eyre earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance in 2011 and a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy in 2018 at the University of Utah. She grew immensely as a musician and teacher during her studies with Hasse Borup and Kasia Sokol-Borup and credits her deep love of teaching to their careful tutelage.  Traveling extensively around the United States and Europe, Eyre performed concerts with numerous orchestral and chamber groups, in addition to performing and competing as a soloist. Outside of her travels, Eyre’s work includes performing and recording with a few well-known and local to Salt Lake City groups including Peter Breinholt, David Tolk, and Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband. In addition, she recorded the music with artists from around the world for a number of short films premiered at the Sundance Film Festival launching actor Joseph Gordon Levitt’s “Hit Record” project. During her studies at the University of Utah, Eyre held positions in the award- winning Mount Olympus String Quartet, the Michie Graduate String Quartet, and concertmaster of the Utah Philharmonia.  Eyre currently lives in Salt Lake and continues to share her love of music with her private students, the students here in the Preparatory Division, as a violin coach at a number of Jr. High schools in the area, and as a member of the Salt Lake Symphony. Eyre is looking forward to getting to know all the string students as our new Artist classes teacher.

Teaching Philosophy

“Music has given me so much throughout my life that the effects are immeasurable. I believe the hard work that students put in to learn a musical instrument will continue to serve them the rest of their lives. The effects of that hard work, overcoming stage fright, using the creative brain, learning to collaborate with others to achieve something beautiful, learning to speak and understand a universal language…yes, we’ll see the fruits of some of that as they perform and move through the program…but the real effects will be felt by the students for the rest of their lives.”
