Biography
Over the past decade, Eric has worked with choirs of any level and size, from non-auditioned community groups and children’s choirs to small vocal ensembles, professional chamber choirs and large symphony choruses. He is the Chorusmaster of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, frequently prepares choirs at the Grand Teton Music Festival, and has appeared as guest conductor for the Utah Symphony.
Internationally, Eric is one of the artistic directors for the Internationaler Arbeitskreis für Musik in his native country Germany, he also performed with his ensembles in Europe and South America. In addition to his stage appearances, Eric has conducted several orchestra and choir studio recordings in California and Utah, and frequently works as clinician and adjudicator.
Prior to his appointment at the University of Utah, Eric was the Director of Choirs at the DePauw University School of Music. As part of the school’s 21CM Initiative, a focus of his teaching was to use music as a vehicle to engage in ongoing reflection about our own places as citizen musicians. For example, his choirs participated in a residency with the Urban Voices Project in Los Angeles to gain insights how communal singing has an impact on individuals coping with the conditions of homelessness.
Eric holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Utah and a Master of Education and Bachelor of Arts in Music and Mathematics from the University of Osnabruck (Germany).
