Biography

Dr. Pamela Palmer Jones is the Coordinator for Musicianship at the University of Utah School of Music, and also teaches Music Theory and the Doctoral Performance Practice Seminar. Dr. Jones is also an adjunct professor of piano at Salt Lake Community College, and taught previously at Harper College and The College of Lake County, both located in the greater Chicago area. In 2009 she was awarded the first Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance granted by the University of Utah.  Previously she earned an MFA degree from UCLA in Historical Performance Practice, and an ARCM Performers Diploma in Piano from the Royal College of Music in London, England.  Her California competition awards include being named first place winner of the UCLA Concerto, Nancy Kendall Robinson, Atwater Kent, Mu Phi Epsilon, and Glendale Symphony competitions. She was also twice a winner of the University of Utah Concerto Competition.  She has performed as piano soloist with the University of Utah, SummerArts, Harper College, Taylorsville/SLCC and Los Angeles Valley orchestras, and also the University of Utah Wind Ensemble on tour in Germany and England. Teachers and mentors have included Johana Harris (piano) and Bess Karp (harpsichord) at UCLA; John Barstow (piano) and Robert Woolley (harpsichord) at the Royal College of Music in London, England; Dr. Susan Duehlmeier, Alan Ball, and Solveig Madsen (piano) at the University of Utah; and Dr. Kenneth Drake (historical keyboard instruments) in Illinois. During the past few years Dr. Jones has played with the Park City Chamber Music Festival and the New Music Consortium, and also performs as harpsichordist with Vivaldi Virtuosi and Utopia Early Music.  In 2011, Dr. Jones earned the Permanent Professional Certified Teacher of Music in Piano, conferred by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
