Biography
Felipe Latorre Almarza began his studies with his father Luis Alberto Latorre at the age of 5. Later in 2010, he entered the piano performance program at the University of Chile with Professor Fernando Cortés. After 3 years, he continued his studies with Dr. Paulina Zamora who teaches within the same University. Felipe complemented his studies with chamber classes with the outstanding professors Svetlana Kotova, Karina Glasinovic and Jacqueline Urizar.
Parallel to his formal studies at the University of Chile, Felipe took master classes with teachers such as Vedrana Subotic, Alfredo Pearl, Jil Dawl, Stephen Beus, Luca Chiantore, among others.
Notably, he has worked professionally as an accompanying pianist of voice students led by important teachers such as: Cristina Gallardo Domas, Pablo Salas, Pilar Aguilera, Carolina Grammerstoff, and Philippe Morris, among others.
He has also served as an accompanying pianist for students of professors and cellists Rita Plaza and Julio Barrios in the chairs of Cello, University of Chile.
He has participated in numerous concerts and auditions in different spaces throughout Chile and the world such as Isidora Zegers Hall, Gabriela Mistral Center (GAM), Luksic complex at the Chilean Catholic University,Sala America of the Chilean National Library, Arrau Hall of the Municipal Theater in Santiago, Theater of the Carabineros of Providencia, Diego Rivera Theater of Puerto Montt, Anahuac Hall, Teatro Mango (Province of Cuneo, Italy) and Libby Gardner Concert Hall (Salt Lake City, Utah) among others.
During 2015 he participated as an official pianist in the Aurora Foundation as an accompanist of numerous lyric and choir singers. In this foundation many sacred works from medieval period to the late baroque were presented in several halls throughout the country.
In 2016 he was selected to participate in the Corsi di perfezionamento musicale “Mango Musica” in Italy taught by the prominent pianist Giacomo Fuga, he obtained an honorary diploma for his outstanding participation.
Notably, at the end of 2016, together with the pianist Martin Morales, he performed the reduced orchestra part of the opera “La Traviata” for two pianos, where they also served as performers. The concert was held at the Municipal Theater of Antofagasta where they accompanied the international artists María Belén Rivarola and Carlos Velásquez, among others.
In 2017 he obtained the first place in the soloist contest of the Faculty of Arts to perform “Rhapsody in Blue” with the symphonic band of the University of Chile under the direction of Eduardo Browne.
In 2018, he joined the lyric group “Mattapegho” as an official pianist, an opera training program lead by outstanding Chilean mezzo Graciela Araya.
In the same year he began working as an accompanist at the “Fammmusic Strings Academy” School, which is taught by the outstanding teachers and solo violinists of the Chilean Symphony Orchestra, Lorena Gonzales and Marcelo Gonzales.
At the end of the year 2018 Felipe finished his Piano Performance studies in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile in the studio of Professor Paulina Zamora, graduating with maximum qualifications.
At the beginning of 2019, Felipe was hired to be a collaborative pianist at the University of Talca for singers and brass players. He was also invited to many activities presented in Talca as accompanying pianist, soloist and member of the “Teatro regional del Maule”. During the next year Felipe Also started working with wood instruments. During 2020 and 2021, rehearsals, exams and presentations could not be done due to the pandemic, however Felipe worked online by sending piano part recordings and making observations to all the students with whom he worked. In 2022, classes and rehearsals at the University of Talca returned to be presential, he continued working until mid-2023, where he decided to do a master’s degree in the United States.
Since 2021 Felipe has worked as a teacher at the “Fortepiano Academy” directed by the Chilean composer and pianist Elias Ancamil teaching classes for children and adults of all ages. Due to the pandemic, classes were online in 2021, however since 2022 he worked in a hybrid way (Some classes online, others in person)
In May 2021, he performed Frédérick Chopin’s concerto No 1 with the “San Miguel Orchestra” under the direction of Israel Olivares.
In the same year, he became an active member of the foundation “Pianos para Chile”, an establishment directed by prominent musicians Alexandros Jusakos and Yvanka Milosevic. The objective of this foundation is to disseminate piano music throughout Chile. Felipe performed several solo and chamber works in many places around the country, the recordings of these performances are on YouTube. These videos include educational talks about exploration and knowledge of piano music.
In 2022, for Chilean Veteran’s Day (January 13) Felipe gave a concert at the “Larrain Palace” organized by the director of the Pacific War Museum “Marcelo Villalba”. On this occasion he premiered national works that had been written during the time of the Pacific War. An indisputable novelty for many followers of Chilean history, since these works had not been performed before.
From the end of 2022 to mid-2023, Felipe worked as an official pianist in the “Antiqua Scuola Musicale” choir where Renaissance and sacred music are generally performed. The choir is directed by countertenor, composer and conductor Cristian Toro.
In 2022, Felipe was accepted to take a master’s degree in piano performance at the University of Utah, United States, with Dr. Vedrana Subotic. Additionally, during the winter of the same year, he won by audition a Ta scholarship for Fall and Spring 2023.
In November 2023, Felipe won third place on “Young Artist-Romantic Work” from “2023 Utah Liszt Festival and competition” held by the School of Music in the University of Utah. In this opportunity, Felipe played Bach-Busoni “Chaconne” in D Minor.
In March 2025, Felipe participated in a masterclass with the outstanding pianist and composer March André Hamelin, in this opportunity, he played Waltz Mephisto No 1 by Franz Liszt
In May 2025, Felipe finishes his master’s degree in Piano Performance, as well as his work as Ta in three elementary schools. (Washington, Escalante and Majestic).
