Biography

Dr. Mio Cowden teaches private piano lessons and Beginning Piano group classes in the Preparatory Division. She is also the Assistant Director of the University of Utah Piano Performance Seminar & Competition.

Dr. Cowden graduated from the School of Music Summa Cum Laude and was selected as the commencement speaker for the College of Fine Arts graduation ceremony.

She placed first in the Arne Oldberg Scholarship Competition in 2007 and second in both the solo and concerto divisions. In Budapest, Hungary, she performed in the renowned Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Concert Hall and received two piano performance certifications of achievement for her consecutive years of studies. Dr. Cowden also received a piano performance degree and a music teacher’s license in Japan, where she won a number of awards at national competitions.

Dr. Cowden studied under the direction of Dr. Attila Németi and Dr. Susan Duehlmeier. She is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key National Honor Societies.

Through careful instruction and practice, each individual, no matter what talent they bring to their lessons, can find their musical voice and enrich their life as well as the lives of those around them.”
