BM University of Utah

Katie started piano lessons at the age of six; she quickly grew to love music and its artistic expression. As a teen, she participated in Encore and the SummerArts Competition. In 2005, she began teaching piano lessons privately and maintained her studio throughout her studies of Piano Performance at the University of Utah. Katie’s desire to become a better piano instructor was her biggest motivation to study and complete her music degrees.

While at the U, Katie served as Vice President for the Utah Music Teachers Association, University of Utah Student Chapter (09-10). She also taught piano for the U Outreach Program and Preparatory Division. Her students have received high marks while participating at festivals, evaluations and competitions. Katie is an avid accompanist who enjoys performing with many instrumentalists, vocalists, choirs and orchestras when she is not teaching students or caring for her four young children.

Katie studied with Dr. Ning Lu.

Teaching Philosophy

Music is unlike anything else- it feeds the soul when words are unable. Through diligent practice we master this beautiful art, and I believe that anyone can make music. I wish to inspire my students to achieve their desires of playing the piano, and my greatest hope is for their life to be filled with the joy of music that they will be able to share that joy with all.
