A native Utahn, Sasha Bainson has played piano throughout the state for 18 years. She received a Bachelors degree in piano performance at Southern Utah University, and in May 2015, Ms. Bainson will receive her Masters in piano performance from the University of Utah. As an undergraduate student, she won the prestigious Performer of the Year Award, and as a Masters candidate has been awarded a full-time teaching assistantship. Ms. Bainson has been an instructor in the University Piano Outreach Program since 2013, is currently an assistant instructor at the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts, and performs with the Red Hots! University of Utah performing group.
An émigré of Taiwan at age six, Ruby Chou received her BMU from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where she grew up. At age 17, she was selected as a Yamaha Young Performing Artist of the Year. She received her MM in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where she held a fellowship from The Center for Music Entrepreneurship. She has performed on summer festival recital series at New York’s Steinway Hall and Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center. She maintains a teaching studio and teaches group piano classes at East High.
Amy Morgan Davis
A pianist with wide-ranging interests, including the violin and musical theater, Amy graduated cum laude with her BS from Weber State University in piano performance and musical theater. She will finish her MM in piano performance from the University of Utah this spring. As a contestant in the Miss America Pageant,Amy received the Presidential Service Award for the State of Utah. A survivor of a brain injury, Amy served as a spokesperson for the Brain Injury Association of America and has used music as a tool to help with her recovery
Chinese pianist Ran Duan received her BM, with honorable mention, from the China Conservatory and her MM from the Cleveland Institute of Music and now is pursing her DMA at the University of Utah under Professor Susan Duehlmeier. As a soloist, she has performed at the He Bei Art Center in China, the Varallo International Piano Festival in Italy and the An die Musik Hall in Baltimore, Maryland, among others. She has won many competitions including the Bei Jing International “Hope Cup” and top prize of the He Bei Steinway piano competition.
Stella Angelova Markova
A native of Bulgaria, Stella started piano at age seven and quickly was accepted into its National School of Arts. She is pursuing her doctorate in piano performance at the University of Utah, where she received her MM. She received her BM in piano performance from Bulgaria’s national music academy,“Pancho Vladigerov.” An instructor in the Piano Outreach program, Stella loves helping her students discover their talents and grow as musicians. She received the U’s prestigious designation of “University Teaching Assistant” in 2013.
Dr. Cassandra Olsen-Taylor is the most recent addition to the University of Utah Piano Faculty. She is the Director of the U of U Piano Outreach Program and a co-founding member of The Ladies in Red. She received a BM (2005) and DMA (2013) from the University of Utah, and a MA from New York University (2007). She has been a featured artist with the American West Symphony, the Paradigm Orchestra, and the Utah Chamber Artists, and has competed and performed in New York, Washington DC, and St. Petersburg, Russia. Dr. Olsen-Taylor maintains a full private piano studio, and is a faculty member at the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts.
Lindsey Lambert Wright
A doctoral student in piano performance at the University of Utah, Lindsey started studying with piano area chair, Susan Duehlmeier, at age five, a span of 22 years. She has competed and placed in many piano competitions including first place in the University of Utah SummerArts Piano Competition in 2004, third place in the University of Utah Solo Piano Competition in 2006, and honorable mention in the Utah State Fair in 2007. Lindsey is developing an online curriculum for the Piano Outreach program, UPlay Piano, as her dissertation.
