  • Alumna Melissa Heath Accepts Tenure-track Appointment

    Brava to recent DMA graduate Melissa Heath! She has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Voice at Utah Valley University.

    Ohio Light Opera has released a recording of their 2014 performance of Victor Herbert’s Dream City and the Magic Knight on the Albany Records label. The recording includes Professor Julie Wright Costa and recent DMA graduate, Emily Nelson.

  • DMA student Melissa Heath will sing the soprano solo for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's sold-out concert of the Messiah on April 18 and 19, 2014.

  • Six students won major awards at the Western Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition in March 2014

    In their divisions, Michelle Dean, Amber Stachitus, and Clara Hurtado Lee placed first, Melissa Heath, second; Mackenzie Matthews, third; and Ærin Loizons won an honorable mention.

    DMA student Melissa Heath sang Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 3, Sinfonia espansiva, with the Utah Symphony in November 2013.

  • Robert Breault featured on a 2013 MSR Classics recording

    Professor Robert Breault was featured on a 2013 MSR Classics recording of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Martingale Ensemble. In summer 2013, he sang with the Rundfunkorchester for the world premiere of Gerd Kühr's Messe.

    Professor Robert Breault sang the role of Narraboth in Utah Opera's fall 2013 production of Salome; the Salt Lake Tribune praised his "outstanding performance." Vocal students Gretchen Windt and Tyler Oliphant joined him as members of the chorus.

    Alumnae Celena Shafer (1999) and Megan Cash (2010) and Associate Professor Kirsten Gunlogson performed in the operatic play Fatal Song with Utah Opera in November 2013 at The Rose Wagner Theater.

    Alumna Clara Hurtado Lee (2003) sang the title role in Donizetti's opera, Lucia di Lammermoor in Italy in summer 2013.

    Alumna Heidi Adair (2004) launched an opera series, Oper im Park, in St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria in 2011.

    DMA student Sidnei Alferes launched FIO Americas Festival of International Opera in 2013 in Brazil.

  • Alumni Perform In Ohio Light Opera

    Alumni Andrew and Olivia Maughan (2013), Alexa Butler (2013), Tara Sperry (2005), Nathan Brian (2004), and Stefan Gordon (2008) performed in the Ohio Light Opera 2013 summer season, along with Professor Julie Wright Costa, Associate Director and 25-year veteran.

    Director of Opera Robert Breault sang the lead role of Tamino in Utah Opera's "Die Zauberflote" in March 2013, sharing the stage with DMA voice student Tyler Oliphant, who sang two smaller roles, offering a unique opportunity for professional collaboration between faculty and student.

    Voice faculty Julie Wright Costa was featured on the cover of Patter magazine (fall 2012, vol. 3) and in the issue for her work as a performer, stage director and associate artistic director of the Ohio Light Opera.

  • Michelle Alexander won first place

    BM soprano Michelle Alexander won first place in the University Division of the 2012 Classical Singer Magazine Competition, besting 1,500 singers.

  • BM soprano Ruby White took first place

    BM soprano Ruby White took first place in the vocal division of the Utah Conservatory's 2012 Con Brio Music Festival/Competition in Park City. BM soprano Alexia Butler won Best Communication award in the vocal division.
