The concert will feature a tour de force of works for percussion from classical to contemporary, as well as non-western and jazz influenced repertoire. The concert will showcase the award-winning University of Utah Percussion Ensemble, Percussion Chamber Group, University of Utah Drumline as well as members of the percussion studio in a variety of solo performances.

The concert will showcase the award winning University of Utah Percussion Ensemble, Percussion Chamber Group and the University of Utah Drumline. The concert will feature a special focus on composer Steve Reich with a variety of his works performed including Drumming, Clapping Music, Nagoya Marimbas, Music for Pieces of Wood. Other works for percussion ensemble and solo percussion will be on display from classical to contemporary, as well as non-western and jazz influenced works.

FALL PERCUSSION EXTRAVAGANZA - Monday, November 10 @ 730pm, Libby Gardner Hall. The concert will feature the U of U Percussion Ensemble and the Percussion Chamber Group as well as the U of U Drumline and a variety of solo works from members of the Percussion Studio. The concert will feature the world premiere of Mechanical Ballet by composer Anders Koppel, commissioned by the University of Utah Percussion Ensemble. A variety of other literature for percussion will be on display from classical to contemporary, as well as non-western, jazz influenced works.

Jeremy Megginson and Stephen Hughes (First, Chamber Ensemble); Nichols Jackson (First, Keyboard) and Taylor Keown (Second, Keyboard); Paul Cassens (First, Orchestral Mock Audition); Taylor Keown (First, Orchestral Snare) and Nicholas Jackson (Second, Orchestral Snare), Mitchell Barnard (First, Rudimental Snare). Alumnus Heath Wolf (2001) placed first and second with the Farmington Junior High Percussion Ensemble.
Professor Doug Wolf received the 2014 Utah Percussive Arts Society (PAS) Service Award.
Dr. Sammons Joins the U's Faculty
Dr. Michael Sammons joined the U's faculty as assistant director of percussion in fall 2012; his successes include national appearances as a guest artist and clinician; various orchestra positions; founding the USA Steel Band and World Music Group; and serving as Director of Percussion at the University of South Alabama.
Heath Wolf earned the coveted 2012 Sudler Cup
Percussion alum Heath Wolf, who directs the successful Farmington Jr. High band program, earned the coveted 2012 Sudler Cup, awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation for excellence in school band programs.
