Jessica Nápoles is an Associate Professor of Choral Music Education at the University of Utah, where she teaches coursework in Choral Rehearsal Techniques and Choral Methods. Her passion is in training music education students to be effective teachers, and collaborating with local schools in partnerships for her students to gain teaching opportunities.

She is the conductor of the Women's Chorus, a nonauditioned group of women from all majors across the university, consistent with her belief that every student should have an opportunity to sing in a choir. A native of Florida with a Cuban-American background, Dr. Nápoles taught in the public schools of Miami and Orlando for seven years. She received her Bachelor of Music Education, Master of Music Education, and PhD in Music Education from the Florida State University, under the tutelage of Clifford Madsen, Judy Bowers, and Andre Thomas.

She is very active in her professional organizations, currently serving as Utah American Choral Directors Association Repertoire and Standards Chair for Ethnic and Multicultural Affairs and Honor Choir Coordinator for the National ACDA Conference in 2015.

Dr. Nápoles is an active conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, frequently engaging in guest conducting opportunities locally, regionally, and nationally. In addition, she is a well known researcher, with numerous publications in journals such as the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and the International Journal of Music Education. She is currently serving on the editorial boards of the Journal of Music Teacher Education and the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing. Her research interests include music teacher education, teacher feedback, perceptions of effective teaching, and teacher talk, and she has presented at conferences on these topics nationally and internationally.
