    The Graduate String Quartet won first place at the MTNA Regional Chamber Music Competition in January 2013, allowing them to continue to the national finals in Chicago in March.

    The Graduate Quartet attended the prestigious Robert Mann String Quartet Seminar by invitation with four other university quartets at the Manhattan School in New York City in January 2013.

  • Naxos American Classics Will Release Recordings By Associate Professor Hasse Borup, Violin, And Professor Heather Conner, Piano

    In February 2014, Naxos American Classics will release Associate Professor Hasse Borup, violin, and Professor Heather Conner, piano, world premiere recordings of the 20th century composer Vincent Persichetti. It includes Sonata for Violin and Piano, op 14, which was rediscovered by Borup after being lost for over 70 years.

    MM Violin student Danielle Lewis received an honorable mention in the Solo Division at the MTNA Regional Competition in January 2013.

    Alumna Leslie Henrie (2013) was appointed director of the Salt Lake Community College's new Bruin Chamber Orchestra in 2013.

    Assistant Professor Lecturer and Alumnus Denson Angulo (2013) was selected as principal bass for the Salt Lake Symphony in fall 2013.

  • David Yavornitzky selected to perform Henze Concerto for Contrabass with Utah Symphony

    David Yavornitzky, adjunct professor of double bass, was selected to perform the Henze Concerto for Contrabass with the Utah Symphony, in February 2013; its first performance by a major American orchestra since the premier by the Chicago Symphony in 1967.

    Faculty violinist Hasse Borup and Pianist Heather Conner will make a rare world premiere of a lost 70-year-old sonata by one of the most prolific and important American artists of the 20th Century, Vincent Persichetti, on September 30, 2012.

    Our student-run 2012 Utah Chamber Music Competition attracted 21 student ensembles from the west and gave out $2k in cash and scholarship prizes.
